OUR HISTORY

In 1880, the village of Bath Beach was sparsely populated. Between occasional resort homes, farms, vacant fields, salt marshes, hotels, yacht clubs, picnic grounds and miles of clean, sandy beaches, you would find well-to-do citizens of New York City who spent their summers here, in Brooklyn.

While the early permanent settlers in the area were mostly of Irish descent, Catholic Churches in the area were not easy to come by. And so the Irish community members were forced to travel into other communities in order to attend Sunday Mass. However, as the population, jobs and industires began to grow within the area, the idea for a Catholic parish church in Bath Beach came to fruition.
